Cascade CEO advises how to manage change during turbulent times

Cascade’s CEO Oliver Shaw took to the stage at the CIPD’s Annual Conference and Exhibition last week, to advise delegates on how to manage change during turbulent times.

The 30-minute hack-style session focused on providing practical tips that HR professionals could begin to implement as soon as they returned to the office. Attendees were also provided with a takeaway document to guide them through some of the points he presented on the day.

His over-arching advice was to plan for change, measure and monitor what’s happening throughout, and analyse the post-change impact. But he also delved into much greater detail so that people could leave the seminar with a meaningful ‘to do’ list.

Elaborating on the content, Oliver explains: “The frequency and pace of change within the business environment – not just the HR sector – has never been so great. In fact there are so many influential external factors at play – beyond the much-debated Brexit – that it’s no surprise many people don’t know what to do first.

“In fact a recent survey conducted in association with People Management found that 57% of HR professionals ‘just about cope’ with change. This is something I wanted to address. Change isn’t going anywhere, so HR teams must become better equipped to manage it!”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Oliver’s presentation touched upon the role that HR technology can play in managing change during turbulent times, but delegates were impressed that the session didn’t become ‘the Cascade show’.

“Yes I think there are a number of ways that our software can help organisations prepare for, navigate and profit from change,” Oliver continues. “But there are a number of wider technologies out there that should also be considered from predictive analytics tools to pulse surveys and reward-based apps.

“I wanted to give delegates a real and honest flavour of the technology mix that I use when I’m managing change in our business, and the insight seemed to go down well!”
